Improve Communication and sharing in MyCourses through better chat. Design MyCourses in a way that each and every module of MyCourses is a chat box in itself.

PROBLEM

The existing MyCourses do not provide efficient real-time communication.
It feels easy to use the third-party application rather than the existing chat feature on MyCourses.

SOLUTION

With the new design, every engagement on MyCourses Homepage is a chat box in itself.
Want to send a direct message, check for broadcasts, new messages or any updates related to courses, check for a chat box related to it on the Homepage of MyCourses.

SKECTHES

Once there was a brief idea about the solution, it was time to design low fidelity prototype to get into the design aspect and how I wanted the redesigned pages of MyCourses to look like. I started with pencil sketches to get my ideas put in front of me to explore all the ideas I had for the page to come out as and also get the initial feedback from my classmates and professor as they are my target users for this project.

Estrella is a second-year graduate student in Visual Designing. She likes to plan her assignments out well in advance. She uses MyCourses to check new updates, new comments, discussions, or new chats to keep herself up to date with the Course work and timeline.

USER SCENARIO 1

Estrella decides to check the details of the assignment and clear any doubt she has by poping up the comment under the assignment so that all the students and professor can view and help with her doubt.

Estrella opens MyCourses and looks for any new updates for the upcoming Assignment details.

My Courses now provides search option, enter a keyword and get the results if you are unable to find updates or chats

She finds new assignment details for UX Design Strategies and gets into to check the details of it.
Every content module now has a chat feature. Estrella can now have her doubts cleared right on the Assignment Detail page

She reads it and gets a bit confused with the details. She has this easy option to clear her doubts right on the Assignment Details page.
She pops off a comment to get an answer to her question.

Other students reply to her comment to help her with the doubt and also raises their own doubts and concerns.

USER SCENARIO 2

For UX Design Strategies Estrella has a group project as a final submission. She forms a group of three directly on MyCourses Homepage using the “New Message” feature to start a discussion related to the project.

Opens the new chat. To start a new conversation or start a Group, MyCourses now provides new chat feature right on Homepage

Adds the team mates in the group. Search with the initials of names to be added in the group

Start the conversation to add a new document related to the project

Other team member replies to have discussion directly in MyCourses.

EASY COLLABORATION

Estrella was able to reach out to her classmates and professor in just a single click to solve her doubt.

HIGHLIGHTED COURSE WORK

Without getting into different tabs, she was able to see all the recent updates on the Homepage itself.

EASY ACCESS

She has easy access to all the new and old updates, chats, broadcast messages right on the MyCourses Homepage.

With the redesign, each module - New Assignment update, new chat, broadcast messages, previous updates and chats, and starting a new conversation with an individual or a group, everything is possible directly from MyCourses Homepage.

Flow 1: MyCourses page will let you Solve any doubt related to the assignment inside the Assignment Detail page itself. Now you can collaborate with professors and other students and have easy conversations.

Flow 2: Now students can chat with other classmates and professors, form groups or broadcast message directly from the MyCourses Homepage.

MyCourses is designed in such a way that it is a platform for easy collaboration between students and students as well as with professors

MyCourses Homepage now presents all the new and previous updates right as you open the application.

MyCourses has easy access to different options such as flagged messages, downloaded content, deleted content and Favourites for future references.

CONCLUSION

With this redesign of MyCourses, students can freely raise questions or queries and receive replies in less time. This design eliminates the requirement of emails and follow-ups. This design gives a composed structure for students to find any material, the document they might need and also gives professors easy ways to interact and collaborate with their students. The chat feature gives everyone a social media feel and makes them work with each other with a feel-good emotion.
